The Friends of St John’s Chapel work in partnership with and support the work of The Churches Conservation Trust – a national charity that looks after over 340 of England’s most important historic churches no longer needed for regular worship.

The Friends aim to help secure the future of this rare surviving example of a Georgian proprietary chapel by increasing public awareness of the chapel and its history and looking for opportunities to promote and extend its use to a wider public.

The chapel attracts visitors from all over the world. Volunteer Friends endeavour to keep the chapel doors open 7 days a week throughout the year; check on the home page for opening times.

Joining the Friends…
By joining The Friends of St John’s Chapel you can help us to preserve and enhance this important building for the benefit of everyone; both today and in the future. We try to keep our Friends informed about events at the chapel via our website and occasional Newsletters. We organise a week-long series of events and concerts in June each year to coincide with the annual Festival of Chichester.

Joining the Friends supports us financially but you might also be able to help us as a Friend volunteer at events or in other ways.

Membership of The Friends of St John’s Chapel is open to all. It costs just £12 per annum. Subscriptions are renewable in January each year.

Download a Membership Application Form here, complete and email it to secretary@stjohnschapelchichester.co.uk or post it to Secretary, Friends of St John’s Chapel, Chichester ℅ 14 St John’s Street Chichester PO19 1UU

It helps us if you are able to set up a Standing Order for your membership subscription, and as a registered charity, the Friends are able to claim Gift Aid on it – which increases its value to us by 25p in every £ at no extra cost to you. To do this you must be a UK taxpayer and be paying at least an amount of tax equal to the amount we can claim back from the taxman.
To set up a Standing Order download and complete the form here and post it to The Treasurer, Friends of St John’s Chapel, c/o 15 St John’s Street, Chichester PO19 1UU

Hiring the Chapel…
It is possible to hire the Chapel for concerts, lectures, exhibitions and private events: the income goes towards maintenance costs. St John’s has outstanding acoustics particularly for musical events. For details of hire charges and bookings contact the Secretary via the Contact page

Donations to the Friends of St John’s Chapel and The Churches Conservation Trust, are always most welcome; these can be sent to the Secretary ℅ 14 St John’s Street, Chichester, West Sussex PO19 1UU
